Description

With the release of Shimano's new XT group comes updated pedals as well. Though these cross-country oriented pedals aren't vastly different than the previous generation, that's a good thing, because they were already really good to begin with. What has changed is a slightly wider platform for better stability under your riding shoes, as well as an offset binding that improves mud-shedding capabilities.

Other than these changes, the pedals are virtually the same. Four degrees of float, two-sided entry, bombproof durability of the body and sealed cartridge bearings, and simple, muck-clearing cleat-to-pedal interface — the features that recommend Shimano's SPDs as the default pedal for mountain, commuting, 'cross and even road riding are all retained. The XC model is slightly lighter and less substantial than the Trail version. It also lacks the extra platform, with Shimano opting to make the M8100 pedals low-weight XC racers with an eye toward widening time gaps on climbs instead of armored trail bruisers built for establishing new lines across techy terrain.

  • Shimano's iconic XC mountain bike pedal sees some updates
  • Wider platform for better stability under your shoes
  • Offset cleat binding improves mud-shedding capability
  • Durable body and sealed bearings are built to last
  • Adjustable entry and release tension to suit your preferences
  • Strong chrome-moly spindle withstands the abuses of the trail
